Lake McDonald, Montana

Lake McDonald, Montana

Lake McDonald is Glacier National Park's biggest lake; ten miles long and 472 feet deep. Filling a basin gouged out by Ice Age glaciers, Lake McDonald is a classic glacial feature. This long fjord-like lake is surrounded by mountains on the north, south, and east with the Continental Divide, 14 miles away. The mountains provide a spectacular backdrop for the lake and also act as a rain block. Much of the blocked precipitation ends up falling on the McDonald valley. The result is a mild, damp climate. Stands of western red cedar and hemlock flourish in the valley of Lake McDonald. The wildlife-viewing here can be spectacular, with species including bighorn sheep, mountain goat, elk, black bear, and whitetail and mule deer.

Longaberger Headquarters – Newark, USA...!!

The Longaberger corporate headquarters on State Route 16 is a local landmark and a well-known example of novelty architecture, since it takes the shape of their biggest seller, the "Medium Market Basket". The basket handles weigh almost 150 tons and can be heated during cold weather to prevent ice damage. Originally, Dave Longaberger wanted all of the Longaberger buildings to be shaped like baskets, but only the headquarters was completed at the time of his death. After his death, further basket-shaped buildings were vetoed by his daughters.

Butterflies with darker wings have better ability to fly

~SCIENCE NEWS~

Butterflies with darker wings have better ability to fly...!!

Monarch
butterflies who have dark orange
wings fly further than those with light
orange wings, a new study has
revealed.

Previous work has shown that
monarch colouring is intended to
warn their predators about their bitter
taste and toxicity, and that migratory
butterflies are darker coloured than
non-migratory ones, suggesting an association between darker colour
and increased fitness.

The current work, led by Andrew
Davis of the University of Georgia,
provides further evidence for this
association. The researchers tested 121 captive
monarchs in an apparatus called a
tethered flight mill, where they can
quantify butterfly flight speed,
duration, and distance, and found
that those with darker orange wings overall flew longer distances than
those with lighter wings.

"Butterfly researchers don't often
look closely at colour variation
between individuals of the same
species. The results of this project will
pave the way for a new line of inquiry
into the significance of butterfly wing colour," Davis said.

Most Colorful Tree in the World

~Rainbow Eucalyptus - Most Colorful Tree in the World~

The Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) or Mindanao Gum is the only species of Eucalyptus tree found in the northern hemisphere. As if that weren’t extraordinary enough, the up to 70-m tall tree also shines in the colours of the rainbow: its bark can take on a yellow, green, orange and even purple shading. The multi-coloured streaks on its trunk comes from patches of outer bark that are shed annually at different times, showing the bright-green inner bark. This then darkens and matures to give blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones. It grows naturally in New Britain, New Guinea, Ceram, Sulawesi and Mindanao. Now, this tree is cultivated widely around the world, mainly for pulpwood used in making paper, and also for ornamental purposes.

Black Widow Spider

Black Widow Spider..!!

This spider's bite is much feared because its venom is reported to be 15 times stronger than a rattlesnake's.

Black widows are notorious spiders identified by the colored, hourglass-shaped mark on their abdomens. Several species answer to the name, and they are found in temperate regions around the world.

In humans, bites produce muscle aches, nausea, and a paralysis of the diaphragm that can make breathing difficult; however, contrary to popular belief, most people who are bitten suffer no serious damage—let alone death. But bites can be fatal—usually to small children, the elderly, or the infirm. Fortunately, fatalities are fairly rare; the spiders are nonaggressive and bite only in self-defense, such as when someone accidentally sits on them.

The animals most at risk from the black widow's bite are insects—and male black widow spiders. Females sometimes kill and eat their counterparts after mating in a macabre behavior that gave the insect its name. Black widows are solitary year-round except during this violent mating ritual.

These spiders spin large webs in which females suspend a cocoon with hundreds of eggs. Spiderlings disperse soon after they leave their eggs, but the web remains. Black widow spiders also use their webs to ensnare their prey, which consists of flies, mosquitoes, grasshoppers, beetles, and caterpillars. Black widows are comb-footed spiders, which means they have bristles on their hind legs that they use to cover their prey with silk once it has been trapped.

To feed, black widows puncture their insect prey with their fangs and administer digestive enzymes to the corpses. By using these enzymes, and their gnashing fangs, the spiders liquefy their prey's bodies and suck up the resulting fluid.

The complete operation of all the generators makes the Three Gorges dam the world's largest hydropower project, and the largest base for clean energy,"

The construction of the world's biggest hydropower plant began in 1994 and its first generating unit was connected to the grid in July 2003.

The installation of the project's 32nd 700-megawatt unit brought total capacity up to 22.5 gigawatts (GW), accounting for 11% of the country's total hydroelectric capacity. Britain's largest power station, Drax, produces 4GW.

The Three Gorges Dam in China is absolute largest in the world. Expected to hold over 39,300,000,000 in volume.

The official state news agency Xinhua said the dam had already generated a total of 564.8bn kilowatt-hours, saving nearly 200m tonnes of coal a year.

The dam, which first went into operation in 2003 at a cost of $22.5 billion, has a combined generating capacity of 22.5 million kilowatts (22,500 megawatts), the equivalent of fifteen nuclear reactors.

Story of Mother’s Sacrifice

Story of Mother’s Sacrifice

(OLD BUT WANT TO SHARE) :(
This is a True Story of Mother’s Sacrifice during the Japan's Earthquake.
After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supporting by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head.

With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure.

He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruin house of the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his had through the narrow cracks to search the little space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed with excitement, “A child! There is a child! “

The whole team worked together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined objects around the dead woman. There was a 3 months old little boy wrapped in a flowery blanket under his mother’s dead body. Obviously, the woman had made an ultimate sacrifice for saving her son. When her house was falling, she used her body to make a cover to protect her son. The little boy was still sleeping peacefully when the team leader picked him up.

The medical doctor came quickly to exam the little boy. After he opened the blanket, he saw a cell phone inside the blanket. There was a text written on the screen. It said,”

If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” This cell phone was passing around from one hand to another. Every body that read the message wept. ” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.”

Such is the Mother’s Love for her Child...

A Lady Has 24 Husbands Till Now

A Lady Has 24 Husbands Till Now

This lady is Linda Wolfe, 71, who first wed at 16, has 24 husbands till now, which is the world record for the Most married woman.
She has said that she is "addicted to the romance" of getting married.
The best lover was Jack Gourley, who liked skinny dipping and impromptu trysts. She wed him three times.
She has had seven children by her different husbands and been a stepmother to many more.
The strangest exchange of vows took place at the Indiana Reformatory at Pendleton to a one-eyed inmate named Tom Stutzman.
"It's easy to sum up," she said of her life. "When I was younger, I was just a snot-nosed kid, but the neighbourhood boys were all in love with me. They all wanted to marry me.
"I got to thinking that in some of these towns where world record holders live, they have signs outside city limits. I wouldn't mind if Anderson would have a sign like that."
Her last marriage, a decade ago, was a publicity stunt. It was to Glynn Wolfe, who in taking Linda as his bride meant he was the world's most married man, at 29 times.
He died 4 years later aged 88.
She has been single now for 12 years, her longest stint unmarried since childhood: "But I would get married again," she said, "because, you know, it gets lonely."
She told a daily newspaper: "It's been years since I walked down the aisle. I miss it."
The serial bride, who now lives in a retirement home, said she had never cheated on a husband. She said if she had her life over again she would "never, ever" marry so many men.
HER ADVICE: “Just get married the once, and stay married. I have not had a bed of roses, believe me,” Linda Wolfe said.

She must be sent by God to ditch men. :P

Sunken Forest of Lake Kaindy

~Beautiful~ (♥_ )

The Sunken Forest of Lake Kaindy

Wanna visit there....?

Kaindy Lake is a 400 meter long lake in Kazakhstan’s portion of the Tian Shan Mountains located 129 km from the city of Almaty. The lake was created after an earthquake in 1911 that triggered a large landslide blocking the gorge and forming a natural dam. Subsequently, rainwater filled the valley and created the lake.
The lake is famous for its scenic beauty particularly the submerged forest and the imposing trunks of spruce trees that rises out of the lake water. Above water, the sunken trees appear as large masts from lost ghost ships, or perhaps the spears of a mysterious army hiding and waiting for the right time to emerge.
The water is so cold (even in summer the temperature does not exceed 6 degrees) that the great pines still remain on the trees, even 100 years later. Because of the clear mountain water, you can see deep into the depths of the lake. In winter, the surface of the lake freezes over and during this time, Lake Kaindy becomes a great spot for trout fishing and ice diving.

There is a man who can hear Colors....

A person named ''Neil Harbisson'', and he was born completely colorblind. Until he was 11, he didn't realize that he had "achromatopsia" which left him with only being able to see in black and white.

When he was 16, he enrolled into an art class. At first he encountered reaction, because he couldn't see color. However, he did an entire art course in grayscale. When he went to college, he paired up with a cybernetics expert who helped him come up with the antenna-like device you see in the picture. It's called an eyeborg.

This device has a camera that detects colors' light waves and translates them into a sound. This sound he hears "in his bone, not in his ears" as he describes it. Each color has a specific musical frequency associated to it. He can currently hear 360 different colors, even ones that the human eye cannot see..!!

FDA Approves First HIV-Prevention Drug...!!

FDA Approves First HIV-Prevention Drug...!!

In a milestone announcement, the FDA approved the use of Truvada, the first drug to be used for HIV prevention in the 30-plus year battle against the virus. To be used as part of safe sex practices and continued testing, the drug, which was first approved in 2004, has already shown promise in preventing infection, with some figures placing protection rates as high as 90 percent.
Still, some concerns have been raised about the drug, not least among them the potential for mutation of the virus--there are theories that the preventative drug will encourage the virus to become stronger. To help curb that possibility, the FDA says "Truvada’s manufacturer, Gilead Sciences, Inc., is required to collect viral isolates from individuals who acquire HIV while taking Truvada and to evaluate these isolates for the presence of resistance." In other words, Truvada will, you know, watch the situation closely.
The drug may also come with a hefty pricetag of $13,900 for a year's worth of pills, but right now, it's the only drug of its kind, and so that might be expected. Most FDA regulations focus on general safe sex practices--condoms, that kind of thing--to prevent infection, but this is the first medicine approved to stop contraction of the virus. We'll bring you more on this as it develops--this is a huge deal for U.S. treatment of HIV.

The Reason for Tear while Cutting Onions

The Reason for Tear while Cutting Onions:

Onions contain a sulphur-based oil. When cut, the cells that contain the sulphur compounds are broken and the compounds are converted into sulfenic acid, which in turn produces a highly volatile chemical called synpropanethial -S-oxide, which then rises into the Air.
When the synpropanethial -S-oxide from onions comes into contact with our eyes, it reacts with the moisture in our eyelids and results in the production of sulphuric acid, which irritates the eyes and stimulates the lachrymal glands. When stimulated, these glands release tears to flush out the acid and protectthe eye..

So use this type ov glasses next time during onion cutting :D

THE MIRACLE OF HONEY~

THE MIRACLE OF HONEY~

Do you know how important a food source the honey is, which Allah offers man by means of a tiny insect?
Honey is composed of sugars like glucose and fructose and minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium chlorine, sulphur, iron and phosphate. It contains vitamins B1, B2, C, B6, B5 and B3 all of which change according to the qualities of the nectar and pollen. Besides the above, copper, iodine, and zinc exist in it in small quantities. Several kinds of hormones are also present in it.
As Allah says in the Qur'an, honey is a "healing for men" . This scientific fact was confirmed by scientists who assembled during the World Apiculture Conference held in China . During the conference, treatments with honey derivatives were discussed. American scientists in particular said that honey, royal jelly, pollen and propolis (bee resin) cure many diseases.

A Romanian doctor stated that he tried honey on cataract patients, and 2002 out of his 2094 patients recovered completely. Polish doctors also informed the conference that bee resin helps to cure many diseases such as haemorrhoids, skin problems, gynaecological diseases and many other disorders.

Nowadays, apiculture and bee products have opened a new branch for research in countries advanced in science. Other benefits of honey may be described as below:
Easily digested:
Because sugar molecules in honey can convert into other sugars (e.g. fructose to glucose), honey is easily digested by the most sensitive stomachs, despite its high acid content. It helps kidneys and intestines to function better.

Has a low calorie level:
Another quality of honey is that, when it is compared with the same amount of sugar, it gives 40% less calories to the body. Although it gives great energy to the body, it does not add weight.

Rapidly diffuses through the blood:
When accompanied by mild water, honey diffuses into the bloodstream in 7 minutes. Its free sugar molecules make the brain function better since the brain is the largest consumer of sugar.

Supports blood formation:
Honey provides an important part of the energy needed by the body for blood formation. In addition, it helps in cleansing the blood. It has some positive effects in regulating and facilitating blood circulation. It also functions as a protection against capillary problems and arteriosclerosis.

Does not accommodate bacteria:
This bactericide (bacteria-killing) property of honey is named "the inhibition effect". Experiments conducted on honey show that its bactericide properties increase twofold when diluted with water. It is very interesting to note that newly born bees in the colony are nourished with diluted honey by the bees responsible for their supervision - as if they know this feature of the honey.

Royal Jelly:
Royal jelly is a substance produced by worker bees inside the beehive. Inside this nutritious substance are sugar, proteins, fats and many vitamins. It is used in problems caused by tissue deficiency or body frailty.

When The female Penguins lays egg. She then gives the egg to the father and leaves. The egg sits on top of the father's feet and under his brood flap. The brood flap is a loose piece of skin which covers the egg and holds it next to the father's body--kind of like an upside down kangaroo pouch. The father Penguin then incubates the egg.

It is very cold while the father Penguins incubate their eggs. They stand in a tight huddle  for 2-3 months straight! The fathers don't eat anything, they just eat a little snow for moisture. They lose almost half of their body weight.  Once in a while, the fathers will reach down and turn their eggs over to make sure that they don't freeze.

Because the father Penguins stand so close together, they conserve half of the body heat that they would lose if they didn't have others around.

When the chicks finally hatch they are hungry. Their father's then regurgitate a white secretion and feed it to the chicks.

After the chicks are born, their mothers come back to take care of them. At first, the fathers don't want to give up the babies, but they eventually do. They transfer the chick from the feet of the father Penguin to the feet of the mother Penguin. They have to be very careful when they transfer the chick, because if he falls on the ground for more than a few minutes, he will die. After the mother has the chick, the father Penguin hurries off to get himself something to eat. Can you imagine going for four months without eating? People can't do that. We would starve to death.

16-Year-Old Girl Is a Real-Life Barbie

16-Year-Old Girl Is a Real-Life Barbie (KotaKoti)

She’s a 16-year-old girl who goes by KotaKoti and looks a lot like a Barbie doll. Recently, photos of her have gone viral on several Asia and Arabic social sites because of her incredible resemblance to Barbie.

I stumbled upon some photos of KotaKoti while browsing a popular Vietnamese site for weird stories (yes, I do actually visit a lot Vietnamese sites, where else do you think I find all this crazy stuff) and was stunned by the resemblance between this girl and the popular Barbie doll. I mean, in some photos Iwas having trouble figuring out if she is actually a real person or just a life-size toy. I wasn’t able to find a lot of info on her, as she doesn’t seem to be as popular on western websites, and although she has her very own blog
